Days of Taste is a national nutrition education program which brings professional chefs, farmers, and volunteers to schools to teach students about food, taste, and nutrition. During this school year, fourth grade students at KIPP had the opportunity to participate in this program. As part of this three-day program students learn from chefs where food comes from and how their tongue experiences different tastes (sweet, sour, salty, etc.) by sampling different foods. The students then go to a local farm to see how their food grows, taste food right off the vine, and learn about the importance of eating local. Lastly the students work with the chefs to create a salad with local, seasonal produce that demonstrates the importance of balancing tastes. This program will now be offered yearly at the school
