Congratulations to Dr. Kate Connor, Medical Director of the Rales Health Center, who was selected by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine graduating medical student class to be inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). Her nomination included the following comments from medical students:

  • As Medical Director of the Rales Health Center at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Kate Connor exemplifies the compassion and commitment to patient-centered care that is the core of GHHS.
  • During medical school, it has been my honor to work with Dr. Connor and observe how she provides care for children and families in Baltimore. She consistently goes above and beyond not only for her patients but also for the Baltimore community. I have seen her calm patients experiencing their first panic attack, support patients during a severe asthma exacerbation and wait with them until transfer to the ED, patiently explain complex medical concepts to anxious parents over the phone, and even restart a youth advocacy program for kids in Baltimore.
  • Dr. Connor creates a safe environment where patients are able to approach her about anything. Anyone who has worked with adolescents in a healthcare setting knows that it can be difficult for them to open up about sensitive topics, and I have seen firsthand how Dr. Connor reaches patients who might otherwise stay silent.
  • The humanistic way Dr. Connor practices medicine has deeply shaped how I hope to practice medicine, and it also inspired me to pursue pediatrics and primary care as my career. I can think of no better faculty candidate than Dr. Connor for the Hopkins GHHS chapter.

Dr. Connor will be inducted with the next cohort of students who will be selected for GHHS.
